I
consider myself fortunate to source fruit from the oldest Syrah
planting in Washington, Red Willow’s famed 1986 block. While
we received a little in 2007, this is our first vineyard-designated
bottling. A meaty fellow—no bacon fat in the nose but you’ll
see what I mean—with a round fleshy middle and a surprisingly
mineral finish. This has more energy (as the wine geeks like
to say) than one would expect, keeping the wine lively and auguring
a happy evolution.
