The 2009 Tabula Rasa Red draws on fruit
primarily from the Horse Heaven Hills AVA in Washington’s Columbia
Valley (Alder Ridge and McKinley Springs), as well as small amounts
of Klipsun and Ciel du Cheval grapes from Red Mountain. With a core
of Syrah (53%) the wine exhibits plummy black fruit, spice, and
olive aromas, and a depth and lushness that belie its humble
aspirations. Mourvèdre makes up 39%, adding mid-palate weight, and
a dollop of Grenache (8%) rounds out the blend, adding complexity
as well as suggestions of raspberries, leather, and black
pepper.
